A mandala is a round pattern whose parts repeat from the center out to the edge. It suits a quiet moment, since you color it at your own pace. Here are six mandalas drawn for kids, with big areas to color.

The mandalas
Flowers and leaves. A big flower in the middle, with small flowers and leaves taking turns around the edge.

Snowflakes and stars. A wintry mandala with six snowflakes.

Hearts. Big and small hearts in a circle.

Sun. A smiling sun in the middle, with small suns and waves around it.

Butterflies. Butterflies fly around a flower.

Big flower for young kids. Only a few areas and all of them big, so this mandala suits a four-year-old.

How do you color a mandala?
- Start in the middle and work out to the edge.
- Pick three or four colors. Color matching parts the same, and the pattern appears.
- Color the background outside the circle last.
You can also color a mandala with no rules at all. Cut the paper into a circle and the finished mandala looks lovely in a window.
